Boat Winterizing Supplies Checklist Winterizing is easier when you work through the boat in order: engine, interior, cover, then trailer. Start by flushing the engine with motor muffs and a garden hose, and use a salt remover if you run in salt water. The boat and RV winterizing kit includes a 5 gallon gravity tank and fittings for running antifreeze through compatible engines. Change the lower unit gear oil with a lower unit gear oil pump so old oil does not sit all winter.
Inside the boat, a closed cabin or console can hold damp air for months. Boat dehumidifier hanging bags or a dehumidifier container absorb moisture and help keep storage areas from smelling musty by spring. Wash the boat before you cover it so dirt does not sit on the gelcoat.
Outside, boat cover support poles lift the cover so rain and snow run off, and cover tie down straps keep it snug in the wind. For the trailer, grease the hubs, check the jack and wheel, and use a wheel dock or storage blocks to keep things stable until spring.
