Boat Cover Supports [VIDEO]
Video Transcription
How's it going everyone and welcome to the Outdoorsman Channel. Today, I'm going to be reviewing a product from Better Boat. Now I've reviewed a ton of other products for them and so far I've been super impressed with everything they sent me. And here's some of the other videos that I've done and you guys can click some links in my description to look at some of the other products and I'll have links to every product I reviewed also in the description. So if you want to check that out, that would be great.
So the product I'm going to be reviewing today is the support pole system. So how it's going to come in a box is like this, and then you're going to have some pieces. Here's the bottom section, this will sit on your deck. And then it has two top pieces, this is a button top that's going to go into your mooring cover, most mooring covers will have a button that they can snap into. Or you have the mushroom top, which has some slots in it where you can put a string or a strap that can go off in the boat and then help support it that way. So, what I'm going to be doing today is I'm going to show you two different ways that the support pole system has been used and how well it works out.

So I'm just going to go ahead and show you how to assemble it first. All you do is, you take the thicker end and your support plate, and you put on the bottom like that, push it in, it's just friction fit. And then you can extend the top, it'll come tight, probably just turn it to the left, it'll pop right out, you can turn it the right, it locks right in. So the mushroom top goes on first, all you got to do is plop it on, you're good to go. And then how you take these apart is you just twist them lefty loosey, twist them tight, and they're really, really strong. I've yet to have one of these collapse under any pressure on me, I've actually had some of the cover get messed up with water and it didn't get set right and there was a lot of weight on it, these still held up really well. I'm going to go ahead and show you how they've been used and how well they've been working out.
Now I'm under the boat cover, I'm going to show you guys one of the ways this product has been used. This is a 600 Denier cover, so it's pretty heavy duty. It gets used when storing the boat for more than a week or so, because water getting into it is a concern, since sometimes the mooring covers let water in, or just not everything's covered when the boat's parked under trees. So having this cover on is ideal when leaving it for a little bit longer.
This is one of the first ways the support poles have been successfully used. This is inside the boat and there are some straps up here going through a zip tie up there, which is supporting them in place. And this really hasn't moved at all, as long as those straps get pretty tight. And then it's just coming down here and resting on the deck there. This really doesn't move, I can wiggle this pretty hard and it doesn't really move at all. And it's been doing a really good job, if you get water and stuff on it, and it doesn't really do anything to it. So that's one of the first ways it's been used.
So you can see even with how good this pole is, you still have some areas of the cover where it sags like this, and that's just the nature of boat covers. I mean, the boat has an 8'6" beam and it's 23 and a half feet long so no matter what you do, you're going to get some areas of the boat where there's just going to be water that pools up and everything. So the best way to do that is to just continually support the cover. So what gets done is when ... usually there'll be someone in the boat when pulling it over, then you escape out this way before putting all the straps on and everything. So when doing that, just take the cover pole like this, raise it up a little bit and then simply put it right under there like that.
And now you can see this is supported and just the weight of the cover really holds that pretty well. I mean, there have been some pretty gusty wind storms around here, in the 20 to 25 mile per hour range and this really hasn't gone anywhere, it's been doing a good job. And then you can see this steep slope here that keeps the water off of the boat. So this has been one way that the cover poles have been working out really well. This supports itself on its own, and it's good that it has a base as opposed to just a pole going down, because if it just had a pole going down, it would then need support in a different way. But now, because of that wide base down there, this guy right here can just be placed on the deck and it's good to go.
So now here's one more way the boat cover support pole system has been used, and that's with the mooring cover. So the next thing to do here is go ahead and remove the mushroom cap and take that off. And then add the button cap, just pop that on. And then here's how this works with the mooring cover. The front mooring cover is just partially on here. Here's the button this would go into, and all you got to do is pop that in like that, just pops right in. And then the height can be adjusted however needed, and that's it, then just go ahead and pull the rest of the cover over. Even putting this up a little bit higher makes it nice and stiff, and that's all there is to it.
So now you can see, the cover's all snapped in. Let me see if I give it a shake test. That's really not going anywhere, so I'd say these covers work pretty dang good and it's so simple to use. You can adjust the height exactly how you need it, and you're good to go, just does exactly what you want it to.
I hope you guys enjoyed this video. This product has definitely saved a lot of headaches when trying to use a boat cover, because boat covers are always a pain in the butt. So if you think it'll help you too, don't forget to click the link in my description and it'll bring you right to where you can purchase it.
