Application
Designed for raw water pumps mounted inside the outdrive using the conventional muff type flusher method. Not suitable for front engine mounted raw water pump systems. Read all instructions and warnings before starting.
Parts included
Tank vent cap, hose flow valve, brass T bracket, tank valve, clear hose, winterizing tank, and tank fill cap. Recommended products sold separately: Better Boat Outboard Motor Muffs and propylene glycol antifreeze.
1. Preparation
Use propylene glycol antifreeze with a burst protection level of at least -50°F and pre-warm antifreeze to room temperature for better flow. Follow the antifreeze manufacturer’s dilution instructions. Assemble the winterizing kit by attaching the tank valve to the tank fill cap, connecting the brass T bracket, hose flow valve, garden hose, clear hose, and motor muffs or other flushing system as shown in the diagram. Unscrew the tank vent cap to help fluid flow.
2. Setup
Place the winterizing tank on its side on the swim platform or rear portion of the boat, above the flusher. Ensure the tank vent cap is removed and all valves are off. Pour at least 5 gallons of antifreeze into the winterizing tank and replace the tank fill cap securely.
3. Winterizing Process
Open the black hose flow valve to start fresh water flow and confirm water is squirting from the flusher or motor muffs attached to the outdrive. Disengage the propeller, start the engine, and allow it to reach operating temperature. Close the black hose flow valve and immediately open the antifreeze tank valve. Confirm colored antifreeze appears in the clear hose. If not, stop the engine and recheck setup. When antifreeze drops to within 2 inches of the tank spout, stop the engine just before the tank is emptied, leaving no more than 1 quart of antifreeze remaining.
4. Final Steps
Remove the flusher or motor muffs from the outdrive. Replace the tank vent cap and turn off the fresh water faucet. Disconnect the garden hose from the black valve and store the winterizer for future use. Consult your owner’s manual for additional winterizing steps such as fuel stabilizer, corrosion guard, and engine fogging.
