Read all warnings and instructions prior to use. Always make sure the throw bag is accessible in case of emergency. Practice use prior to storing your bag away, since practice improves deployment speed and aim.
Open the throw bag and pull out approximately 3 feet of rope. Secure the metal clip to a stationary item that is secure, or hold the metal clip with your non-throwing hand. Using your throwing hand, throw the bag and remaining rope to the desired location while securely holding the tail end with the clip in your non-throwing hand. Aim the rope to land across the person’s body.
Yell clear instructions, such as “Grab the rope!” When the person has hold of the rope, brace your body and footing. Using a hand-over-hand motion, carefully and steadily pull them toward you while maintaining verbal communication.
If you miss your target, quickly pull the rope back into your hand in short loops and repeat the steps above. To repack, remove snags or tangles, check for cuts, abrasions, or wear, and replace immediately if damaged. Starting with the rope attached to the bottom of the bag, slowly repack the rope a little at a time, finishing with the clip end.
